Title

The Rectory and Columbarium, Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church (Palm Beach, FL)

Description

Wyeth made two important contributions to Palm Beach’s oldest church Bethesda-by-the-Sea. He designed a Spanish courtyard house in 1924, which was later sold to the church in 1929 to become the rectory, or home of the priest. The Rectory was designated as a landmark in 1990. His next addition to Bethesda-by-the-Sea was the columbarium where he and his wife Eleanor eventually were interred. It was designed in 1962 to complement the Gothic Revival style of the main sanctuary, designed by Hiss and Weeks, but wasn’t built until 1973, when permission was granted by the Town of Palm Beach.
