Title

Bali Hai’i (Naples, FL)

Description

Volk designed this modern house for Jane Tibbett and her husband, opera singer Lawrence Tibbett, in what was once the quiet fishing village of Naples. It featured a moon gate, a traditional architectural element found in Chinese gardens. Many of the materials came from the Everglades, such as juniper wood, cypress, and coral stone. Volk excavated a lagoon in order to obtain fill to elevate the house above sea level. The Tibbett residence is no longer extant.
